East Asia encompasses a wide range of latitudes, from Tokyo and Seoul in the temperate zone to Beijing further north. Muslim communities in Japan, South Korea, China, and Russia each face unique crescent visibility conditions shaped by their geographical position.
Our predictions account for each city's specific astronomical conditions, providing reliable forecasts for communities across the region. East Asian cities often experience distinct seasonal patterns that affect crescent visibility windows.
Our system calculates five key astronomical parameters at sunset: moonset lag, moon age, moon altitude, sun-moon elongation, and illumination percentage. These are fed into a machine learning model trained on over 2,000 historical crescent sighting observations to produce a confidence score from 0% to 100%.
Moonset Lag
≥ 45 min
Moon Age
