The Indian Sub-Continent is home to one of the world's largest Muslim populations, spanning India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal, and the Maldives. The region's varied latitudes, from the Maldives near the equator to Peshawar in the north, create diverse sighting conditions.
Cities like Karachi, Mumbai, Dhaka, and Lahore rely on accurate crescent predictions for determining Islamic month start dates. Our system provides city-specific forecasts using precise astronomical calculations, helping communities across the sub-continent prepare for important Islamic occasions.
Our system calculates five key astronomical parameters at sunset: moonset lag, moon age, moon altitude, sun-moon elongation, and illumination percentage. These are fed into a machine learning model trained on over 2,000 historical crescent sighting observations to produce a confidence score from 0% to 100%.
Moonset Lag
≥ 45 min
Moon Age
≥ 21 hrs
Altitude
≥ 8°
Elongation
