Canada's northern latitudes present unique challenges for crescent moon visibility. Cities at higher latitudes like Edmonton and Winnipeg may experience extended twilight during summer months, making the thin crescent harder to spot against a brighter sky.
From Vancouver on the Pacific coast to Halifax on the Atlantic, Canadian Muslim communities benefit from location-specific predictions that account for each city's unique astronomical conditions. Our model considers moonset lag, moon age, altitude, and other key parameters for precise forecasts.
Our system calculates five key astronomical parameters at sunset: moonset lag, moon age, moon altitude, sun-moon elongation, and illumination percentage. These are fed into a machine learning model trained on over 2,000 historical crescent sighting observations to produce a confidence score from 0% to 100%.
