Southeast Asia is home to the world's largest Muslim-majority country, Indonesia, along with significant Muslim populations in Malaysia, Brunei, Thailand, and the Philippines. The region's equatorial and tropical latitudes generally provide favorable crescent sighting conditions year-round.
From Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur to Manila and Bangkok, our predictions account for each city's specific astronomical conditions. Southeast Asian locations often benefit from consistent sunset patterns and relatively high moon altitudes, though monsoon cloud cover can affect practical visibility.
Our system calculates five key astronomical parameters at sunset: moonset lag, moon age, moon altitude, sun-moon elongation, and illumination percentage. These are fed into a machine learning model trained on over 2,000 historical crescent sighting observations to produce a confidence score from 0% to 100%.
